Vegetables sold at Albertsons, Walmart, Trader Joe's part of massive recall
Daily News - 10/23/2017
Oct. 23--Mann Packing of Salinas is voluntarily recalling packaged vegetables because they may be contaminated with listeria, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The recalled veggies were distributed throughout the U.S. and Canada with "best if used by" dates from Oct. 11-20 listed on the front of the packaging. For recalled products distributed at retail and foodservice, product names, UPC codes and "best if used by" dates are listed below.
The company said it had a single positive result found on one of its products during random sampling by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. So far, health officials have not reported any illnesses associated with these products.
"As an owner of this company and a mom, providing safe and healthy foods to our consumers and their families is always our top priority," Gina Nucci, director of Corporate Marketing, said in a statement. "This voluntary recall is a reflection of our commitment to ensuring the safety of our consumers."
Brands include: Signature Farms products sold at Albertsons, Archer Farms sold at Target; kohlrabi salad blend sold at Trader Joe's, several varieties of broccoli and cauliflower sold at Walmart, and at least 30 Mann branded bags of veggies. See the full list of recalled veggies at this FDA website.
Mann Packing is working with all affected stores to make sure the items are removed from shelves.
Consumers who have bought any of the recalled products should either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
